We do this by empowering individuals with practical skills for maintaining healthy decision-making processes, sharing their personal life stories, and embracing their unique value to society.

TYRO was birthed in a prison visiting room by the Tijerina family. Through their firsthand experience with incarceration, they recognized the need to discover a new way of living.
30 years later, TYRO is an industry leader in character development Re-entry programming, meeting the needs of prisons and participants, creating a lasting-impact in families’ legacies across the globe.
TYRO Leadership is a 20 hour course, traditionally taught twice per week. Each evidence-based lesson is designed to build character and resiliency, creating a path for individuals to become leaders worth following. These programs build hope, empowerment, and create safer, healthier men and women.
The program can be facilitated by a staff member, volunteer, or peer facilitator. In addition to the in-person classes, we have developed a digital video-based on-demand version to many of our programs and are available across several learning platforms.
TYRO is designed to bring transformation and hope into the lives of individuals with a focus on social determinates of health. Our programs and courses have impacted nearly a million lives in prison and transformed tens of thousands of justice-involved adolescents and adults.
